Maine has a rich nautical history and a lot of treasures to go along with it. In most New England homes you’ll find a Steamer Trunk, brought over on steamer ships as people began travels to America. The same that applies to how we restore furniture, applies to steamer trunks. The work of restoring trunks can include disassembly, hardware removal, rust restoration, cleaning and deodorizing, replacement of deteriorated leather items, fabric lining, lithograph preservation and much more. The business is centered around trunks because it has become a hobby that grew into a successful restoration company. I gave my grandson a trunk to store all his toys in when he was little. It fit so well into our family home, yet provided functionality and fun – thus the birth of Maine Steamer Trunk Company.
